What is the difference between Invisalign invisible braces and traditional metal braces?
The most obvious difference between traditional metal orthodontic braces and Invisalign invisible braces lies in the aesthetics. Invisalign aligners are clear, allowing you to straighten your teeth undetected, whereas metal braces are significantly more noticeable.
Additionally, with metal braces, certain foods and activities are prohibited to avoid the risk of breakage. However, no such inhibitions exist with the removable Invisalign aligners.
Is there a difference in the way traditional metal braces work versus Invisalign invisible braces?
Traditional orthodontic braces consist of bonded brackets, arch wires, and elastic bands that move crowded or spaced teeth into their proper position for appearance and function. Brackets are bonded to the front surface of each tooth and wires are attached to the brackets with elastic bands. The slight tension on the wire is gently transferred to the bracket through the elastic band. Over time, the teeth shift due to the gentle pressure that the metal braces provide.
Invisalign braces from an Invisalign specialist work similarly. The clear aligners are custom-formed to gently push the crowded or spaced teeth to their proper position. The time period, however, is significantly shorter with Invisalign than with metal braces.
Aesthetics and convenience are the main differences between Invisalign and traditional metal braces. Invisalign braces are invisible and convenient. With Invisilign, your food choices and activities are unlimited and it takes less time to straighten your teeth requiring less office visits for treatment.
