The condition of having space in between your teeth is called diastema, and thanks to the technology of San Antonio cosmetic dentistry, you can fix this unsightly problem if it gets to the point where it bothers or embarrasses you.
There can be a wide variety of causes for gaps or spaces between your teeth. For example, it could simply be genetics and the way that person’s bone structure is, while other times, the spaces are caused by teeth grinding, which can lead to a whole host of issues in addition to the gaps. No matter what the cause, there are a number of ways to correct the spaces between your teeth.
Gum surgery: There are many people who have extra gum tissue, and this is usually due to genetics. Having this extra tissue can be a cause of diastema, however, one of the things that you can do is have this tissue removed via surgery. This is a quick way to have the spacing of your teeth return to proper alignment.
Braces: The good old fashioned method of braces can be used to re-align your teeth and close any gaps. However, try to keep in mind that this could take up to two years. If you do not want your braces to be visible, there are types of braces that are marketed as being nearly “invisible” without the traditional metal components.
Crowns or Bridgework: This is a very fast method of giving people the impression that your teeth are straight. However, keep in mind that this can sometimes be expensive.
Bonding or Porcelain Veneers: This is a good option for your teeth because it will get the job done. One thing to keep in mind with this solution is that immediately after the procedure, you are going to want go easy on your teeth. Methods like bonding or porcelain veneers may involve filing down your teeth so that the substance will bond to your teeth. This can make your teeth incredibly sensitive to hot and cold, so eat and drink with caution afterwards.
There are many ways that people can treat embarrassing spaces and gaps in their teeth, and consulting with a San Antonio cosmetic dentistry expert and picking a method that you are most comfortable with is generally the best path to take.
